These are Awesome.... Period!
I am a pretty tough grader on stuff like this and have nothing to lose or gain in any of my reviews. We have had a lot of snow and subsequent ice in our area over the last month. My street and drive are ice covered at least 1-2 inches thick and then it melts on top of the ice and it is impossible to stand up. I purchased the Yaktrax and let me tell you, they are worth every penny. I did not get the Pro model because I didn't know if I would like them. When I first got them I tied to go for a walk down the driveway with my regular New Balance running shoes (no Yaktrax) and could barely stand up... Kept sliding without even walking. Went back in the house and put the Yaktrax over my running shoes and went back outside. I was able to walk across the ice like it wasn't even there. I felt like I probably could run on the ice if I wanted, but didn't want to push it. I don't know how the Yaktrax will be in deep snow, but then you probably wouldn't need them there anyway. But on ice, they are super! I read some previous reviews that said they had problems with breakage. I make sure that the rubber bands are pulled high up onto the shoe and try to have the rubber bands on the bottom go between any grooves that I have on the bottom of the shoe. This is a long winded review to a low cost item but I wanted to make sure it gets the review that it deserves.
Durable and comfortable sandal
By far one of the most comfortable, if not the most comfortable shoe or sandal I have ever owned. Now that summer is over, and it is late Fall, I find myself still wearing these even now that it is colder because they feel so good. I bought mine in May, and it is November now. They really are tough to give up. Any reservations I had that they look funky evaporated when I wore them. If they do not feel right when you put them on, you probably have the wrong size. Most people that buy Keens find that they need to buy a half size larger than they do with other shoes.They have a wide toebox so that your toes are not cramped together, and they are the first to come out with the protective toe guard. While other companies are starting to put toe guards on their shoes, they are not designed to be both protective and completely comfortable like Keens. I never stub a toe or catch a toe on anything with these, plus I can hide my ugly toes. It also has a little rise on the rear heel that cups your heel comfortably, but also helps protect you against those people that step on the back of your foot. It feels very secure once it is on and does not slip. There are no straps to fool with or Velcro to adjust, it has an inner lining that looks like the neoprene on a scuba suit, it stretches to fit. It has a no lace closure and you set it once, from then on it slips on easy. The metatomic footbed cradles my foot like no shoe I have ever seen. A feature I had not experienced before in any shoe is the little ridge on the inner sole that runs behind the toes and in between your big toe and other toes. The first time you feel it is a surprise, but it turns out to add to the comfort of the shoe immensely. That ridge forms in a short time to your foot, giving you your own custom fit. Keens shoes are invented by a doctor, who studied the anatomy of the foot very closely, and it shows. I hate to gush about this, but the shape of this shoe inside and out gives me a sensation that the shoe is part of me, and I can stand longer and walk longer... it makes me feel like running. I first saw these on some ultralight backpackers I met, they swore by them.It has an anatomical outer sole that is very grippy, with a nice athletic shape, it gives good traction on sand, dirt, boulders, mud, you name it. It is not slippery on the boat or dock, and the sole does not leave any marks. It is made in such a way that it does not hold dirt in any grooves to track ion on my carpet either. It is great for water, and you can wear it into the stream, pool, or sea. If it gets wet, for some reason you don't feel it due to the material that wicks the water away. It has an anti-microbial treatment that takes away any germs.The first Newport that came out has leather trim, but it is officially waterproof. The newer Newport H2 is made of completely synthetic materials, and it holds up better in the long run as far as repeated wettings and mud. When my H2's get dirty, I throw them in the sink, under the hose, or even in the washer and they come out like new. I wore these almost daily for 4 months straight with no evidence of wear. This includes standing in line all day at theme parks and scrambling at the beach and lava rocks on Maui. These come in many colors. Keens makes other great shoes like the Providence boots, clogs, and tennis shoes. My other favorite sandals are for dressier occasions, they are the black Rieker Anti-Stress Jens 09176, and the Dunham Moose Fisherman (actually designed by New Balance).

I have plantar fasciitis (which causes heel pain with every step) and decided to check out this brand, which has a reputation for providing good fit and comfort. I saw this product listing and decided to try the New Balance WW759 shoes in the blue/grey.I had never tried on New Balance shoes before, so I ordered the two most usual shoe sizes for me (the smaller of the two was my typical size and the larger of the two was a half size up from that), knowing that I could count on Amazon's great shoe return policy for the pair that didn't fit.Sadly, neither pair fit my feet. Even the larger of the two shoe sizes was too small length-wise - so I would have had to go up one further half-size, at least, for this shoe to be long enough for my foot. Unfortunately, both of the pairs I got were too big in the heel, so going up another half-size would make the fit in the heel even worse.Due to the poor fit, it was clear that I'd have to send both sizes of the 759 style back, and try a different model of New Balance shoes, or a different brand altogether.Positives of the WW759:-The base of the shoe did feel very comfortable and supportive in terms of my heel pain / plantar fasciitis.-The shoe seemed well-made.-It looked like the photo in the listing.--------Because I was surprised that the heel fit me so poorly, I had a look on the New Balance website for further information on how their shoes are sized. Oddly, I had to dig around quite a bit in their FAQ section to find useful information on this.To make their shoes, they use several different kinds of lasts (shoe forms/bases), and these vary along 4 dimensions - the fit at the heel, the fit at the instep, the fit at the toe box, and the fit at the forefoot.**NOTE: This WW759 shoe is listed as having an AL-2 last, which offers a standard heel size, a higher instep, a deeper toebox, and a standard forefoot.**On their website, you can select what sort of shape your foot has, and what sort of fit you are interested in, and see which styles match it.--------In a comment attached to this review, I will post the best internet links I could find about New Balance's sizing and shoe last information. I hope this might help some folks as they are shopping online for New Balance shoes.
I don't understand...
New Balance once had a very good reputation for making quality athletic shoes that provided solid support and were well-constructed. I have owned many pairs of their gym shoes through the years. The old version of the 608 in particular was a very good shoe. The shoe shape was well-proportioned (wider in the forefoot where most feet tend to widen), the materials were good, the support was almost unmatched in this price point, and the durability was exceptional. Well, sadly this is no more. I tried on a pair of these and was horribly disappointed. The shoe is shaped like an oval now, not conforming at all to the shape of my feet. The materials seem to be of poor quality, the uppers being stiff and not very breathable (the old 608s were made from soft, comfortable leather). The sole is completely flat and seems thin, not very cushioned. The toe box is short yet very high (how many feet are shaped like that??). I couldn't even walk around the store comfortably when I tried them on! What has happened, New Balance? Is the focus now on the whole minimal footwear concept rather than on the old standby? Whatever the case, NB has lost a customer here. Disappointing.
These shoes changed my running life
As some background I was once a very high mile runner with a number of marathons under my belt. As I got older the miles started to cause more pain on my knees and shins and I couldn't just run through it like I used to. My doctor recommended I try these. I was a bit weary at first but after some exhaustive research I decided to take the plunge and I am glad I did. My knee and shin pains is gone. I have friends who have experienced the same relief of pain they had dealt with all their lives, knee, shin, and back pain.Now this isn't some magic shoe, but what the shoe does is helps us, as humans, run they way we are supposed to. The way we had run for tens of thousands of years. Keep in mind that footware of all kinds are relatively recent. Long before trainers came about we were running, barefoot or in flimsy sandals and doing just fine. What these shoes do, and similar minimalist shoes like them from New Balance, Merrell and Reebox, is help the body run in a more natural manner. The heal strike that is so common today has come about as we added thicker and thicker cushioning to our shoes. When barefoot it is not natural to strike the ground with your entire weight on the heel of your foot. A good example of natural running is to go watch kids run barefoot, before they are taught the 'correct' way to run they run the natural way. Which is to land more gently on the forward part of your foot and role the foot front to back, instead of hammering your heel into the ground.With that in mind wearing these shoes takes some time to retrain the foot so start building up slowly. I found that just having my toes separated felt very odd but after a few days of wearing them around the house I had gotten used to it. Now I am running some of the fastest laps of my life with this 'new' type of shoes and a 'new' type of running. There is a lot of good information available online about barefoot running, which you are essentially doing with these types of shoes. Youtube also has a wealth of information. These shoes have turned what used to be a painful experience back into the joy of running I had been missing. I've already recommended them to a number of my fellow runners with wonderful results.I want to include a few words of caution though. The Five Finger shoes aren't for everyone, some people will have toes that are longer and will not be able to fit comfortably in the toe pockets. Not to worry though, Merrill and several other makers now offer similar shoes without the toe pockets for people who need them, or just find the toe pockets too strange. Also you don't have a large robust sole to offer protection so kicking a rock or the like during a run is a painful experience. I've also found that during longer runs socks like the Innijin socks help prevent heat build up and blisters.
Very Comfortable
Like many others, I wore the style 600 for a few years. Not being able to find that number again, I called New Balance and they said the 608 is the replacement for the 600 they no longer manufacture. I asked why is it called V3 and I was told this is the 3rd version they have made. So I ordered these from amazon and am very pleased with this style. It's really quite comfortable; sturdy and supportive for walking shoes (actually they are cross trainers). I would not wait too long to order them again, before they discontinue this style number and then I would have to search and search for something comparable. I get seriously annoyed when manufacturers change styles just because they can, even when there isn't anything wrong in the first place.
These are great shoes
I have orthotics and therefore am always looking for a good shoe that is supportive and that I can put my orthotics in. I have used the New Balance product for many years, but this shoe is by far the best one so far. My heal pain has all but gone away and they were comfortable from the moment I tried them on. I also like that they came in wider sizes. If anyone is looking for a comfortable, sturdy shoe, I would recommend these.
